Amendments to Rules: 22.02.2004 WHIGS RULES 1. Name of Society The Society shall be called the WHIGS (WOKING & HORSELL INDIFFERENT GOLF SOCIETY). It is registered with the English Golf Union under its Registered Society Scheme. The Society agree to abide by the Rules of Golf as laid down by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. The Society agree to abide by the Rules of Amateur Status as laid down by the RAGC of St. Andrews. The Society recognizes that the English Golf Union is the governing body for Mens Amateur Golf within England and as such recognises its authority to govern the game. The Society agree to accept the conditions as laid down by the English Golf Union in respect of the English Golf Union Registered Scheme and furthermore agree to adopt such changes as may from time to time be determined by the English Golf Union. 2. Membership The Society shall be open to all past and present members of the WOKING and HORSELL CRICKET CLUB and anyone introduced by a member of the Society prvided that anyone seeking membership must be proposed and seconded by 2 members in good standing (of whom one shall be a past or present member of Woking and Horsell Cricket Club )and approved by the Committee. A member must attend at least two Golf meetings per year, otherwise at the discretion of the Committee, a re application may need to be made to continue membership and a new joining fee paid. There shall be a maximum of 65 members. The Secretary shall advise the English Golf Union immediately of the names and addresses of all new members and of those who resign from the Society. The Secretary shall advise the English Golf Union immediately of the allocation of English Golf Union Registered Society Handicap to a member. The Secretary shall advise the English Golf Union quarterly of any alteration to handicaps of its members. This shall be done on lst November, lst February, lst May and lst August to assist the English Golf Union in its presentation of the Society profile to affiliated Golf Clubs. 3. Management The management of the Society shall be in the hands of a Committee, consisting of the elected Honorary President, Chairman, Captain, Vice Captain, Secretary and Treasurer. The English Golf Union shall be advised immediately of any change in these officers. 4. Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting will be held before the first meeting of the year. At this meeting the officers of the Society will be elected by the members. 5. Finances There will be a joining fee of £20 for all current and new members. The yearly subscription shall be £10. Any defaulter (non payment) will at the discretion of the committee be removed from the active members list. All dues/fees/competition fees etc. are payable after the AGM and before the first Spring meeting. The Society has agreed to pay to the English Golf Union annually on lst November all registration and membership fees as required by the Executive Committee of the English Golf Union for registration of the Society with the EGU Registered Society Scheme. This is paid from members' annual subs. 6. Events and Meetings There will be a minimum of five meetings each year: Spring, Early and Late Summer, Autumn and Christmas period. Annual Cup/Shield prizes have been donated. Members wishing to play at a venue will be required to pay in advance by cheque the full amount for the day's golf and food. This is to facilitate the Treasurer to be in a position to pay the Golf Club on the day without recourse to his own funds. , It also allows the payments of deposits for future fixtures which has now become the norm. There will be a match play knock out singles competition called THE TOM SCOTT MEMORIAL SALVER to be completed on or before the December meeting of the Society. The draw for the competition will be made at the AGM. The entrance fee for the knock out competition shall be £1. There will be a prize called the DAVE DRURY CAPTAIN'S PRIZE to be donated to the player with the three best scores (gross) for the ensuing year. There will be an eclectic competition on net scores for which a cup was donated by the late Dennis Brackley. 7. Competition and Handicap committee Members shall play off full Club Handicaps; where Club handicaps are not held, a member will play off a handicap allotted by the Society Committee. The Society has a Competition and Handicapping Committee to organise competitions for its members and control handicapping therein under the authority as delegated to them by the English Golf Union.This Committee determines the conditions which appertain to each competition and supplies all members and the English Golf Union with details of these conditions. The Committee has agreed to adopt the Handicapping Scheme for Registered Societies as determined by the English Golf Union and no other method of handicapping for those members not in possession of a Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) handicap shall be introduced. The Committee keeps full records of competitions and handicaps of members as determined by the English Golf Union these records to be available upon request. The Committee has the discretionary power to assess and adjust handicaps at any time, and will carry out a review at the end of each year.
